Voilà une semaine que je me trouve sur le sol anglais. Déjà ou seulement une semaine...je ne sais que choisir tellement celle-ci a été riche en rencontres et en découvertes. 

Etape 1 : Le départ

Samedi 14 septembre. Réveil à 4h30 pour un départ à 10h15 depuis Bergerac (Pau-Bergerac, ça fait tout de même une petite trotte !) Mes parents et ma sœur ont eu la gentillesse de m'accompagner jusqu'à l'aéroport. Quitter sa famille et son pays...ce fut plus dur que je ne l'aurais cru. Quand on sait que l'on part pour dix mois loin de tout ce que l'on connaît, ça fait un sacré pincement au cœur.

Etape 2 : L'arrivée

J'avais réservé le 'Meet and Greet' service, un service gratuit offert par l'Université de Leeds, qui m'a permis d'être accueillie par deux étudiantes - fort sympathiques - de l'Université une fois arrivée à l'aéroport de Leeds-Bradford. Elles m'ont aidé à trouver un taxi pour me conduire jusqu'à ma résidence universitaire, IQ Leeds.

Etape 3 : S'installer

IQ est l'une des plus petites résidences de l'Université de Leeds. Elle contient environ 250 chambres. La plupart sont en colocation avec une cuisine partagée (ce qui est mon cas). Il y a néanmoins pas mal d'espace dans la chambre ; trop, d'ailleurs, pour le peu d'affaires que j'ai pu amener de France, mais je ne vais pas m'en plaindre !

Etape 4 : "Socialiser"

Cette semaine (16sept-20sept) était dédiée aux étudiants étrangers. Il y avait donc une multitude d'événements organisés par l'Université pour rencontrer d'autres étudiants. Parmi ces événements, le 'Global Café' est celui qui m'a permis de rencontrer le plus de gens en un temps record ! Le principe est très simple : on papote avec qui l'on veut autour d'une boisson et de gâteaux. En seulement une semaine, j'ai d'ores et déjà rencontré des étudiants des quatre coins du monde : du Canada à l'Australie, en passant par la Chine, plus de 170 pays sont représentés à l'Université de Leeds !

A partir de lundi, c'est la 'Freshers Week' qui commence ! Un 'fresher' est un nouvel étudiant à l'Université, souvent de première année. Vous l'aurez compris, encore une semaine remplie d'événements en tout genres pour "socialiser" !

My arrival in Leeds

It has been a week since I've arrived in Leeds. Already or only a week... I can't decide since it has been a week full of meetings and discoveries.

Part 1 : The Departure

Saturday, 14th September. Waking up at 4.30am for a journey at 10.15am from Bergerac (from Pau to Bergerac, is also a very long way !) My parents and my sister were kind enough to come with me to the airport. Leaving my family and country...has been harder than I thought. When you know you'll be living for ten months away from all you have ever known, you heart sinks.

Part 2 : The Arrival

I booked the 'Meet and Greet' service, a free service offered by the University of Leeds which allowed me to be welcomed by two students - who were really friendly, by the way - once I arrived at Leeds-Bradford airport. They helped me with finding a taxi to take me to my accomodation, IQ Leeds.

Part 3 : Settling In

IQ is one of the smallest accomodation of the University of Leeds. It contains 250 rooms. Most of them are available in flatsharing with a shared kitchen (which is my case). Nevertheless, my room is actually rather spacious ; too spacious, in fact, for the few belongings I was able to take with me from France, but I'm not going to complain about it !

Part 4 : Socialising

This week (16Sept-20Sept) was dedicated to international students. There were plenty of events organised by the University so we could meet other students. One of these events was the 'Global Café'. It's the one which made me get to know the most people in  record time ! The principle is quite easy : we natter with whom we want to accompanied by a drink and biscuits. In only a week, I've already met students from the four corners of the world : from Canada to Australia, passing by China, there is more than 170 countries which are represented in the University of Leeds ! 

From Monday, 'Freshers Week' will start ! You probably understood that it's going to be another week full of events to socialise !
